From the Classroom to the Boardroom

My journey has been a blend of dedication, service, and a passion for helping others. For ten years, I instilled a love for math in high school students. But my influence extended beyond the classroom. I coached a variety of sports, from football to swimming, even starting El Dorado High School's swim team in 1975! After 35 years, I retired as the swim coach, leaving a legacy of aquatic achievement.

A Commitment to Service

My dedication to service extends beyond education. I'm a proud University of Nebraska graduate and veteran with an honorable discharge from the USAF in 1968. I actively contribute to the community as a member of the American Legion and a Past Exalted Ruler of the El Dorado Elks Club. My commitment to safety led me to become a Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructor and Certified Handicapped Instructor, also serving as the Past Chairman of the Bluestem Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Insurance Expertise and Innovation

Transitioning to the insurance industry in 1977, I built a successful career. I'm the President and Owner of David J. Powell & Associates LLC and Brokeret LLC, licensed in an impressive 41 states. My dedication to knowledge is evident in my four insurance degrees – Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and Registered Health Underwriter (RHU).

Recognized Leader and Author

Throughout my career, I've consistently achieved recognition as a national sales leader and a Life & Qualifying Member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT). Additionally, I'm a National Quality Award (NQA) winner with NAIFA. My expertise extends to authorship, with the publication of "Obamacare Unwrapped" available on Kindle.

Shaping the Insurance Landscape

Beyond sales, I've actively shaped the insurance landscape. I played a key role in crafting the Short Term & Specialty Product Law for the State of Kansas, signed into law in 2013. This law has served as a model for other states. I even ran for Insurance Commissioner of Kansas, demonstrating my commitment to positive change.

A Visionary for Healthcare

My focus on helping others extends to healthcare. I co-founded the Direct Primary Care movement with Dr. Josh Umbehr and W. Joe Martin. This innovative approach to medical practice prioritizes affordability and accessibility. Additionally, I developed the only true DPC group health insurance wrap-around plan, making quality healthcare more attainable for businesses and their employees.
